Congratulations to the Lady Lions for this fine accomplishment.

(12/16) The varsity Lady Lions went on the road and won a contest at Trinity Centralia by a final score of 42-33 to improve their record to 8-2 on
the season. The Lady Lions led by scores of 19-6 after 1, 27-13 at half, 31-26 after 3 and finished winning 42-33. Makenzie Silvey lead the Lady Lions
with 26 points, while Lorren Walther added 8, Alana Moore 4, Suze Jezek & Tori Perez each contributed 2 each. The Lady Lions next game will be on the

Lady Lions welcome Trinity Lutheran for 8th grade night
(12/7) The Lady Lions will recognize Alana Moore as a part of 8th grade night on Thursday as the
Lady Lions host the Eagles of Trinity Lutheran. Moore, the daughter of MCS coach Mike Moore,
has played on the Lady Lions team since she was in the 5th grade. Alana was a member of the first ever
basketball team at MCS as the program was begun in their 5th grade year. Alana is also a member of the
Lions Cross Country team and placed 18th in the SIJHSAA state cross country meet in October 2011. Alana is
the only 8th grade player on the team this year and we would like to say thanks to Alana for all the hard
work she has put into this program.

Silvey wins FT Contest; Jezek, Silvey, Walther win 3 pt team contest
(11/19) The Lady Lions won some individual awards at the Christ Our Rock
Lutheran 7th grade tournament here on Saturday. Makenzie Silvey, who shot
last based on her 15-20 shooting in the preliminary rounds, went 4 for 5 in the
finals to go to a sudden death shoot off. Her opponent, Jessica Geiger
from Trinity Centralia, shot first and missed and that opened up the door for
Silvey. Silvey, who was second last year, calmly sank her shot to give her
the title. In total she was 20-26 for the competition. In the 3
point team competition, the Lady Lions went to two shoot offs before winning the
crown. In the first round they made 4 and in the second round they made 3
before winning the crown with 7 three pointers. In a foreshadow of the
finals, the Lady Lions trio defeated Hoyleton Grand Prairie's shooters.
One player would shoot 5 shots from each wing and from the top of the key.

Lady Lions struggle, lose in championship
(11/19) The Lady Lions advanced to the finals by playing a great game
Saturday morning but struggled all night long against Hoyleton-Grand Prairie.
"It is very disappointing to play like this and lose this evening." stated Coach
Silvey. "This is by far our worse game of the year. I told the girls
at halftime that they were playing like they were trying not to lose, rather
than playing to win. They were so uptight and I am not sure why. We
have been in this situation before, but the prior experience didn't seem to
matter this evening." Coach Silvey is referring to the Lady Lions
inability to capitalize on fast break opportunities created off turnovers.
"I believe we missed at least 6 layups. Coach Moore and I will watch
video and try to teach the girls, but for our girls to miss wide open layups is
very disappointing." Besides the layups the Lady Lions continually settled
for the 15-18' jumper instead of attacking their defenders. "They are very
big. Their front line had a 5th grader, 6th grader and 7th grader and all
three were taller than my tallest girl. This is nothing new for us, so it
shouldn't have bothered us, but it did." "Coach & I were constantly
reminding the girls to get to the glass but nothing clicked tonight." The
Lady Lions trailed almost the entire first half but were able to tie the game at
half on a designed in bounds three pointer by Makenzie Silvey. This 3
pointer tied the game up at 17-17 and completed a 9-1 run for the Lady Lions to
finish the first half. "I thought that might change the momentum going
into the second half. I believed that if we could get up by 6 or 8 that we
might be able to pull away. This wasn't the case and you have to give them
credit. They played hard and they capitalized on their opportunities.
The Lady Lions were never able to get that 6 to 8 point lead and played up by
two or down by 4 for most of the second half. Hoyleton G-P lead 26-24 and
increased their lead to 30-26 before a 3 pointer by Georgia Agan put them up
33-26 about midway through the 4th quarter. The Lady Lions were able to
get a bucket by Suze Jezek to cut the lead to 5 with about 2 minutes to play and
with about a minute to play Makenzie Silvey hit a 3 pointer to cut the lead to
within 2. The Lady Lions continued to play hard but couldn't get a steal
and had to foul Mandey Hafford. Hafford sank the first free throw to
increase the lead to 34-31 but missed the second one giving the Lady Lions one
last chance with 7 seconds left. Makenzie Silvey secured the rebound and
raced down the court and got fouled attempting a 3 pointer. Silvey, who
won the CORLHS free throw contest earlier in the day, made her first attempt to
cut the lead to two but missed her second attempt. The last attempt was
also missed but the Lady Lions couldn't get the rebound and lost by two.
"Hopefully the girls will learn from this game. These girls are 34-9 when
they play their own age, but 3 of these losses are in championship games and 2
more are in semifinals of tournaments. We have losses of 1 point, 4
points, 2 points, 1 point and 2 points in those five games." Makenzie
Silvey lead the Lady Lions with 13 points while Suze Jezek added 11.
Lorren Walther, Addie Moore, Tori Perez, and 5th grader Megan Silvey each added
2 points a piece.
Lady Lions defeat Woodlawn, advance to finals
(11/19) The Lady Lions jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead and never
looked back as they defeated the Lady Warriors from Woodlawn 29-3 at the Christ
Our Rock Lutheran High School Tournament. The Lady Lions were lead in
scoring by Makenzie Silvey with 11 points and also received contributions from
Lorren Walther (8), Suze Jezek (6) and Addie Moore and Tori Perez with 2 a
piece. The win advances the Lady Lions to the championship game against
Hoyleton - Grand Prairie. "They have a lot of size, so it will be crucial
for us to box out and limit their second chance points."
7th Grade Lady Lions open up tour action with victory
(11/14) The Lady Lions 7th grade team won their opening round matchup against Trinity Hoffman by a score of 41-21 on Monday Nov 14th. The Lady Lions
received contributions from six different players, with Makenzie Silvey (10) and Addie Moore (10) each getting into double figures. Megan Silvey (9),
Suze Jezek (6), Lorren Walther (4) and Allie Cochran (2). "We didn't play well in the first half, but we made a couple of changes at halftime and was
able to pull away from them late." The Lady Lions will play the winner of the St. Rose / Hoyleton-Grand Prairie winner on Saturday morning at 8:30am.
Lady Lions go on road, win close one at St. Paul Highland
(11/10) Balanced Scoring Key to Win
: The Lady Lions, playing their first game in 9 days, received scoring contributions from
six different players to help lead the Lady Lions to a 48-45 victory at St. Paul Highland on Nov 19th. The victory increased the Lady Lions record to 4-1 on the
young season and 2-0 in Region 5 action. The Lady Lions, who never trailed during the game, jumped out to a quick 18-8 lead in the 1st quarter but only
held a 25-21 lead at halftime. "One thing that hurt us in the 2nd quarter is that Suze (Jezek) got her 3rd foul early in the 2nd quarter and sat almost the
entire 2nd quarter on the bench. St. Paul also plays relentless defense and gets out on the fast break very well so those were also keys to them climbing back
into the game." "A big lift for us came right before the haltime break when Megan Silvey stole the ball at mid-court and raced down for a layup with 3 seconds
left in the half. This gave us a 4 point lead at half and kind of turned the momentum around." During the 3rd quarter the teams went back and forth with
the Lady Lions increasing their lead to 36-31 at the end of 3. The fourth quarter provided a lot of excitement as both teams continued to play well
and traded bucket for bucket and saw the Lady Lions leading the game by 1 with a little over 1 minute to play in the game. After a full timeout by the Lady Lions,
Suze Jezek was able execute a play drawn up by the Lions coaching staff to get loose for a layup and a foul. Jezek missed the free throw to finish the
3 point play, but this put the Lady Lions up 46-43. St. Paul quickly go that bucket back and only trailed by 1 with 27 seconds left in the game. With an in-bound play
under the Lady Lions basket, Lorren Walther was able to get the ball in bounds to Suze Jezek, and instead of forcing a shot Jezek wisely pulled the ball out for the Lady
Lions to run some clock. The very well coached Vikings allowed 21 seconds to run off the clock before they finally fouled Makenzie Silvey with 5 seconds left.
Silvey, a 7th grader, calmly sank both free throws to put the Lady Lions up 48-45 with 5 seconds to play. The Vikings, who did get a good look at a 3 point shot at the
end of the game saw their attempt hit the backboard unsuccessfully. The Lady Lions were lead in scoring by Makenzie Silvey with 14, but also received great
contributions from Suze Jezek (11), Tori Perez (9), Alana Moore (8), Lorren Walther (4), & Megan Silvey (2). "Tori had a huge game for us. She normaly scores 2 ppg
and for her to get 9 here tonight was huge." The 9 points was a career high for Tori Perez. The 8th grade Lady Lions are off until Tuesday Nov 22nd when they welcome
the Knights of St. Clare (O'Fallon) for a home game.
In the 6th Grade Game the Lady Lions won by a score of 28-13. The Lady Lions were lead in scoring
by Megan Silvey's 11 points with Kiera West (7), Addie Moore (6) and Kailen Walther & Allie Cochran (2 each).
5th Graders run record to 3-0
(11/3) The 5th grade Lady Lions bettered their record to 3-0 on the young season with a 26-8 victory over the visiting squad of St. Ambrose out of Godfrey.
The Lady Lions jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead and increased their margin to 12-4 at half and 20-4 after 3 and went on to cruise to a 26-8 victory.
Six different Lady Lions scored on the evening with the scoring as follows: Megan Silvey (7), Kierra West (6), Macy Silvey & Kailen Walther (4), Maggie Karraker (3)
and Kaytlynn Stevenson (2). The Lady Lions next 5th grade game isn't scheduled until Nov 22nd when they host the Knights of St. Claire O'Fallon.
Congratulations Makenzie Silvey
(11/1) Passes 1,000 Career Point Mark : 7th Grader Makenzie Silvey passed the 1,000 career point mark here on Tuesday evening
in the 2nd quarter of the JV game with a short 6' jumper. Silvey, who came into the year with 906 career points, reached this mark in the 92nd game of her
career, and is currently averaging 19 ppg in the 8th grade games this season.
Lady Lions get back in "W" Column
(11/1) Varsity & JV each win home game The Lady Lions improved their record to 3-1 on the season with a 55-44 win over
the visiting Sorento Greyhounds. The Lady Lions, who suffered their first loss of the season on 10/28, jumped out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter. In the
first quarter 4 different Lady Lions scored, being lead by Suze Jezek's 6 points, 4 points each from Alana Moore and Lorren Walther and a bucket from Makenzie Silvey.
The Lady Lions opened up their seven point first quarter lead to 9 points by leading 31-22 at half time. The Lady Lions also had 4 Lady Lions score in the
second quarter being lead by Makenzie Silvey's 9 points with Moore, Jezek, and Addie Moore each adding 2 points. This halftime deficit didn't take the fight
out of the visiting Greyhounds as they put up 18 points in the 3rd quarter, to eventually tie the game, but the Lady Lions kept their composure to eventually lead
43-40 after three quarters of play. "We told the girls in between the 3rd & 4th quarters that we thought their center was getting tired and that we had to
keep getting the ball up and down the floor. The Sorento head coach opted to start their center on the bench and the girls took advantage. We got our lead back up
to 8 or 10 points before their center got back in the game and we went on to win by 11." Makenzie Silvey and Suze Jezek, each 7th graders lead the scoring with Silvey netting
19 points and Jezek 18 points, but the Lady Lions also got 8 points from Alana Moore, 6 from Lorren Walther, and 2 each from Addie Moore & Tori Perez. The Lady Lions
varsity is off until Thursday Nov 10th when they head to Highland to play the Vikings of St. Paul. "It will be a big game for us. They are good and they are in our
region so we will have to play very well to come out of there with a victory."
In the JV game the Lady Lions were up 16-10 at halftime but extended this lead to 26-12 after 3 quarters and went on to a 39-12 victory. 7th graders Suze Jezek (14 points
& Makenzie Silvey (15 points) lead the Lady Lions in scoring while Addie Moore and Tori Perez contributed 4 points and Megan Silvey added 2 points.
Lady Lions fall to the Wesclin Warriors
(10/28) Disappointing loss on the road: The Lady Lions went on the road for the first time on Oct 28th and fell short to the
taller Wesclin Warrions by the score of 47-38. The Lady Lions, who had opened up their season with victories over All Saints Academy and Pocahontas trailed 10-7 after one
period of play, but that deficit expanded to 27-17 at half. "We didn't play our best basketball tonight, but we were still in the game. We missed several
opportunities around the basket and that hurt." In the second half the Lady Lions never got closer than the final deficit of 9 points. The Lady Lions got contributions
from six different players. Makenzie Silvey lead the Lady Lions with 15 points, Lorren Walther contributed 9 points, Suze Jezek 8 points, and Alana Moore, Addie Moore,
and Tori Perez each added 2 points a piece.
Lady Lions defeat Pocahontas Indians
(10/24) Win over IESA foe at MCS: The Lady Lions won their second game of the season with a 44-32 over the visiting Pocahontas Indians here on Tuesday night.
The Lady Lions, who finished with a margin of victory of 12 points was up by only 3 points midway through the 4th quarter but pulled away late in the game.
The Lady Lions, playing their second game of the year, lead by margins of 8-7 after one, 18-9 at half, and 27-17 after three kept their composure when the
Indians made a run in the fourth quarter. "The Lady Indians scored 15 points in the 4th quarter" stated coach Silvey. "They started hitting everything
they shot and I'm thankful that we were able to keep pace. We scored 17 points in the 4th quarter" The 17 points in a quarter ties a season high for
points in a quarter, a mark they first set in the first quarter of their season opener against All Saints. The Lady Indians got to within 3 about midway through
the fourth quarter, but the Lady Lions kept their composure and didn't get overwhelmed by the situation. "We have been in that situation before.
We were leading All Saints the whole game until they took the lead in the 4th quarter. We were able to come back against them, and I'm thankful we
were able to hold on tonight as well." The Lady Lions were playing shorthanded this evening. An already thin roster was even more short this evening as
7th grade Addie Moore rolled her ankle in the 7th grade pre-game warm ups. "Addie contributes minutes on the 8th grade team as well as playing the entire
7th grade game. Her injury required a couple of big adjustments for us. Allie Cochran, a 6th grader, played in the 8th grade game and 1st year player
Kailen Walther, the 5th grade sister of Lorren Walther, played the entire 7th grade game for us. I was nervous but both girls did very well in stepping
into new situations." Scoring for the 8th grade game was lead by 7th grader Makenzie Silvey. Silvey scored a game high 21 points while Lorren Walther and
Suze Jezek each added 8 points. Alana Moore contributed 6 points. "Alana's big contribution tonight was her rebounding. She did very, very well on the
boards for us tonight." The 8th grade Lady Lions take to the road for their first road game on Friday night as they travel to Trenton Wesclin.
Trenton Wesclin beat the Lady Lions last year by a score of 40-35. That game was also played in Trenton.
In the JV game: the Lady Lions also improved their record to 2-0 with a 32-17 victory. The Lions lead this game by scores of 10-2, 12-9, 22-13 and the final
margin was 32-17. "Addie didn't play in this game, so Kailen Walther stepped in and played for us. She played very well for us, especially on the defensive
end of the court." stated Coach Silvey. 7th graders Makenzie Silvey lead the JV scoring with 18 points while teammate Lorren Walther added 10 points. Suze
Jezek and Tori Perez each contributed 2 points each. The 7th grade Lions team is off until Nov 1st when they play host to another IESA school, the
Sorento Greyhounds. The JV game tips off at 6pm.
Varsity & JV open up with wins over All Saints Academy
(10/20) Big Win over Region 5 Foe: The 2011-2012 Lady Lions season opened up on a positive note as the host Lady Lions kept their composure
to secure a victory over All Saints Academy (Breese) here on Thursday night by a final of 38-36. The Lions, playing their season opener, started the
game out on fire by racing to a 17-6 first quarter lead. "We played very well in the first quarter" stated Coach Silvey. Makenzie Silvey, a 7th
grader tallied 11 points in the quarter. However, the very deep and tall Saints mounted a strong comeback in the second quarter to cut the Lady
Lions halftime lead to 20-15. "All Saints is very, very deep" stated Coach Silvey. "They have 13 players on the 8th grade team and they don't miss
a beat with their substitutions. Besides their depth, they also have a lot of size. It seemed like all of their players were at least 5'8" or
taller. I'm hopeful we don't see that kind of size all season long, but tonight we were able to work around it." All Saints continued to use their
depth and size to inch closer in the 3rd quarter as they closed the lead to 28-25. The Saints eventually took the lead with a 33-30 lead with 3:30 left in
the 4th quarter, but Silvey raced down the court to convert on a layup to cut the lead to 1. After a steal and a foul against Silvey,
Silvey sank two free throws to put the Lions back in the lead 34-33. Another steal by the Lions was converted into a 15' jumper by Suze Jezek to
put the Lions up 36-33. "That was a big jumper by Suze." She came around the top of the key and pulled up slightly above the elbow and
hit the jumper. It was a tough shot" However, even though the Lions were up by 3 with less than a minute left in the game,
All Saints showed a lot of heart and continued to fight. After a missed 3 point attempt was knocked out of
bounds by the Lions, this gave All Saints another shot at tying the game. Inbounding the ball with 5.5 seconds left, the Saints ran a picture perfect
double pin at the elbows for a wide open 3 pointer by Fields. "I knew it was in when it left her hands. I was in a perfect position
to see the shot go up and I knew it was in. I was thinking we were heading to overtime. Thankfully they fouled Makenzie on the in bounds pass
from Alana Moore with 2.2 seconds left in the game. I have reviewed video of the game and she was definitely fouled. I know it was a tough call for the
official to make, but it was the correct call." With 2.2 seconds left, and the score tied at 36 each, Silvey calmly sank both free throws to secure
the Lady Lions victory 38-36. "A timeout was called during the fourth quarter and I told the girls not to panic, but to dig deep and give it
all they had for the remainder of the game. Thankfully they responded. We have very limited numbers, in terms of roster size, so almost all of my girls
will play their max allowed six quarter each night. We were just getting worn out but they showed a lot of heart." coach Silvey was speaking of
when the Lady Lions fell behind All Saints in the 4th quarter. The Lady Lions were lead in scoring by Makenzie Silvey with a game high 21 points, while
Suze Jezek, also a 7th grader, added 11 points. Alana Moore, the Lady Lions lone 8th grader, added 4 points and Lorren Walther contributed 2 points.
The Lady Lions next game is Monday night when they host Pocahontas with a 7:15 tip time. "This shoould be a good game as well. We played at Pocahontas
last year and we won by 1, so I am expecting a tough game." stated coach Silvey.
In the Junior Varsity game: The Lady Lions also won over All Saints by a score of 39-18. The Lady Lions lead 8-6 after the first quarter, but expanded
their lead to 20-10 at halftime. They extended the lead to 30-14 after three quarters and cruised to a 39-18 win. "I didn't know what to expect.
We only have five 7th graders on the roster and one 8th grader so we are limited to 6 quarters per night. To make things work my 7th grade team has
one 6th grader and two 5th graders." stated Coach Silvey. "One of my 5th graders has played at this level before, meaning two years up, but my 6th grader
hasn't experienced this and my other 5th grader is a first year player." "I was very happy with the way the girls played in the 7th grade game as well."
Seven of out eight players scored in the Lady Lions game with the leading scorers being 5th grader Megan Silvey and 7th grader Makenzie Silvey with 12
points each. Lorren Walther (6), Suze Jezek (4), Addie Moore (2), Allie Cochran (2) and Tori Perez (1) rounded out the scoring.
Lady Lions 4th & 5th Grade Teams open up season with Vicotries
(10/21) Season Opener: The 2011-2012 Lady Lions 4th grade & 5th grade teams got off to a great start here on Friday night by beating
cross town school, Saint John Neumann. The Lady Lions won the 4th grade game by a score of 40-8. The Lady Lions were lead in scoring by
4th grader Maggie Karraker with a career high 20 points. "She played very well. She did a good job of being in the right spot for offensive rebounds
and she also converted them." Madison Blanton, also a 4th grader added 8 points, while 2nd grader Macy Silvey also added 8 points. Ajna Mills,
a 3rd grader contributed 4 points to round out the scoring. In the 5th grade game the Lady Lions used a tough man to man offense to jump out to a 9-3
lead after one and expanded that lead to 19-7 at halftime. "The girls played well. They passed the ball well, limited their turnovers, and converted
on their offensive scoring chances." The Lady Lions went on to win the game by a final of 37-17. The Lady Lions were lead in scoring by 5th grader
Megan Silvey's game high 23 points. Maggie Karraker, a 4th grader, added 10 points while Kierra West and Macy Silvey each contributed 2 points. The
4th / 5th grade teams are off until next Thursday the 27th when they welcome Saint Paul Highland to town.
2011-2012 Season Opener
(10/13) Home Opener The 2011-2012 Lady Lions open their season on Oct 20th as they host All Saints Academy (Breese) out of the dominating
Clinton County Conference. "Yes, this will be a tough challenge for us. All Saints plays in the Clinton County Conference and that
has got to be the best conference in our association hands down." Coach Silvey is referring to the conference that provided the Class S
state champs, Germantown, Class M State Champs, Breese, and Class L State Champs, Carlyle, in the 2010-2011 year. "It is unbelievable how good
these schools are year in and year out." "I am excited to see how we stack up with All Saints. From what I have read they have a lot of size
and depth, which we have neither. Our varsity roster will be very short and we will only have two subs, one of which will be a 5th grader." The tip
off for the junior varsity game will be 6pm and the varsity tip will be approximately 7:15pm.
4th / 5th Grade Teams Season Opener
(10/13) The 2011-2012 season opener, and home opener, for the 4th grade team and 5th grade team will be Friday October 21st as they host
Saint John Neumann out of Maryville. "I'm excited about the 5th grade team this year" stated Coach Silvey. "These girls played up last year
on the 5th grade team and received a lot of experience playing up one year. We only played three games last year at their own age and they
were 2 and 1, so I'm expecting a lot of good things from them this year. Our 5th grade team will consist of (4) 5th graders: Megan Silvey, Kaytlynn Stevenson, Kailen Walther, and Kierra West. We will also roster 4th graders Madison Blanton and Maggie Karraker.
2011-2012 Lady Lions Varsity season preview
(10/13) The 2011-2012 Lady Lions will feature a very challenging schedule as the team will play 4 schools out of Clinton County, which produces some
of the best girls junior high basketball in the SIJHSAA. "Correct, we host All Saints Breese and then we travel to Wesclin, Albers/ Damiansville, and finish
up traveling to Saint Rose on Jan 3rd." Besides the Clinton county schools, the Lady Lions will also compete against perennial Class S power, Trinity
Lutheran Centralia, a very good Saint Paul Highland team (Class S), and Smithton (Class M). Besides these SIJHSAA teams, the Lady Lions will host IESA
schools Pocahontas and Sorento as well as compete against other local private schools. All of the fun begins on October 20th.
